Guide - Side Menus (how they work and what the options are)

You have four options for how side menus are displayed on your content.

  1. Standard Side Menu Showing Related Pages
    1. When you make a new page or other content (forms, faqs, etc) you will typically see this side menu automatically when you add your new content to your main menu. The system will pull the section of the main menu where your content is located, and show your page’s sibling links (the links in the same branch of the main menu) expanded on the left side.
  2. Department Side Menu
    1. When you check the checkbox to “Use Department Side Menu”, the system will show your department’s side menu
    2. You will need to choose a department from the dropdown box for this to work.
    3. To manage the department side menu, group your links, and add new custom links, go to your department (under “departments”) and then click the “menu” tab.
  3. No Side Menu
    1. You can hide the side menu and make your page full-width by changing the page template to “Application”.
    2. We typically only do this for maps, certain forms, or areas where you need the maximum width for your content.
  4. Custom Side Menu
It is possible to create a custom side menu that appears only on the pages where you want it to show.
This is a bit more advanced and we can assist you if you need help doing this.
    Here are the steps:
    1. Build a new menu in the CMS under “Menus".
    2. Add whatever you want to that new menu and save it with a name that makes sense to you.
    3. Copy the “Internal" page template content to make a new page template.
    4. Change the id of the menu in the template to be hard-coded to your new menu ID.
