The first real business day on the new CMS was yesterday, and we knew that there would be some small bugs, incompatibilities, and confusion with customers as to the new interface, even though we tested the entire system. Once live customers are using the system with their live content, they found issues right away for us to fix. We are iterating on the new system very quickly and we will be transparent about bug fixes and improvements with our customers.
Application Pricing - The pages on our website for the new products didn't all display pricing until today. The EvoAccess™ ADA system, and the SimpleAgendas™ pricing was added to the www.evogov.com website today.
Page Editor not Displaying - When using the CMS for the first time, some customers saw a blank editor when going to edit a page. Clicking CONTROL SHIFT R on the keyboard forces a hard refresh and re-cache of the page, then the editor appears. This solved that issue for anyone that experienced it.
CAPTCHA Preventing Form Submission - The updated captcha system protects forms from bots filling out the forms. But instead of forcing users to select those annoying photos (choose all squares that contain a bicycle), the Google CAPTCHA V3 we have installed now is invisible. When we went live over the weekend, it was locked down for use by only certain domains, and now it is opened to all customer domains. This caused form submissions to fail and is now fixed.
Clicking to Edit Links - This feature disappeared with the new page editor (different editor vendor) but we rebuilt that functionality after hours tonight and it is now live. Basically when you click a link in the editor you get a popup to more easily rename it. One of the reasons we chose this new editor is so that we can create new toolbars in it (like the ADA button).
Centering Content in Editor - The "center" button in the editor wasn't centering all content. We added new functionality to this so that it can better center images and YouTube videos in pages. This is tested and live.
FAQ Editor Popup - The popup editor for managing FAQs wasn't large enough to contain the new editor - this was fixed and allows resize tonight after hours.
3-Column Layout Control for Department Pages - The toggle for three column layouts is being retired. But until the new base layout for departments (a more modern one) is rolled out, we temporarily brought this toggle back so that it could be turned on and off for testing and debugging live department pages.
Job Postings No Longer Require Online Applications - Some of our customers use our HR system for posting job openings, but they don't want customers to apply through a web form. This flies in face of what we are moving to with the integrated SimpleStaff™ system that we just launched, but we made this regression possible by adding a toggle on the job postings so that existing customers can disable online applying. This went live tonight after hours. This allows you to use the HR system to POST jobs, but have applicants apply through a URL or PDF that you link to. Our recommendation long-term is to build web forms for applying online, and allow your applicants to apply online - this is the only way to get their information into the new SimpleStaff™ hiring workflow that we are now including.
FAQ Editor Load Time - 400% speed improvement realized by optimizing the page queries after hours tonight.
Hide Analytics - A county asked us if we could somehow limit the ability for ALL staff members to see the widget on the dashboard that shows who is logged in and what content is being managed by whom. This inspired an idea for us to group the panels on the dashboard into panel groups, which can each have their own permissions. So for example a ROW of panels could be grouped together like the Analytics ones, and then a small gear icon would be visible to site admins so that they can control visibility of them. We are going to mockup this design and then build it so the dashboard view when you first log in is more modular. We will add additional panels the the login dashboard as well.
Department Page Layouts - The outdated legacy template for department pages has always been hard coded into the system until this release. "Themes" in the design area of the CMS now supports a custom layout template for departments. Each element on a department page also now has a content widget output. This means that we can now quickly hand-craft a custom-looking department page layout that would be site-wide in any site we build. We are building new group page layouts that are more bulletproof that can be installed into existing sites in minutes. These will be ready in the next couple of weeks.
Form Columns and Layouts - Forms layouts are going to continually improve. They are not 100% at the moment so we are going through the template system to make those look better.
